Things To Know When Moving To Georgia...

Today we’re going to talk about things to know before moving to Georgia. All right, so one of the first things you need to know is that it is great for retirees. A lot of the counties that we have in the state of Georgia, specifically in the north part of the Atlanta area will give you tax exemptions if you are a certain age. They’re all a little bit different, so make sure that you talk to a qualified agent to find out exactly what the particulars are for each individual county, but that is a huge benefit when you move to Georgia. So if you’re a retiree, come on in.

Where in Georgia should we actually live? One of the nice things about this area of the country is you’ve got such a wide variety, different places, right inside the state of Georgia. You’ve got beach life. You can find a place down on the beach on the ocean. You’ve got city life here, the big city of Atlanta, and then you’ve got the north Georgia mountains. So no matter what your preference is, there’s an area for you.

Okay, another reason to move to Georgia is we have phenomenal schools here. Cherokee County, which is where we’re at right now was actually ranked number 11 in the whole entire state. For more information on a specific school, or to see what the rankings are you can go to greatschools.org. Once again, that’s greatschools.org. That’ll give you the best schools in a particular area, and give you all kinds of different information that you want.

Okay, the other reason is the weather. Look at this, it’s gorgeous. I’m sitting here in the middle of September, which is my favorite time of the year, but we absolutely have the most gorgeous weather all 12 months out of the year. You will get all four seasons, which is a great benefit. But I tell you, man, the weather here is just wonderful. I don’t know what the stats are, but the sun seems like it is always out. Very few days that we actually have clouds or rain. Snow is very, very rare. The further north you get up in the state, up in the mountains, you’re going to get a little bit more snow, but right here where I’m at, which is on the north part of Atlanta, very rarely do we get snow. When we do, plan on staying home and don’t go anywhere. It is crazy around here with even the threat of snow. People will lockdown, they’ll freak out and it’s quite a scene to actually see. The weather here is absolutely gorgeous, very mild. It’s not called Hotlanta for no reason. I will tell you in August, July, period, it’s hot. It is really hot. If you really enjoy the heat, it’s a great place. Me personally, you know, I kind of stay inside the air conditioning in those months, but anyway, overall, it’s a phenomenal place, and the weather is absolutely fantastic.

Okay another thing to note, if you’re not from the South and you’re coming down here to Georgia, SEC football is a religion down here. Hey, I’m originally from the Midwest. I came from the Big 10. I thought the Big 10 was a big deal until I actually moved down here to Southern Georgia back in ’99. It’s a religion. Everybody’s going to say “Go Dawgs.” Just get used to it. It just happens to be the university of the state. It’s actually a lot of fun, a lot of fun. So get used to SEC football. You better get spun upon who the teams are and what’s going on if you want to have a good conversation with anybody from Georgia.

All right, if beach life is more your style and being a little bit closer to the water, than the Savannah all the way down to Brunswick, St. Simon’s, Jekyll Isle area is absolutely gorgeous. We love vacationing down there in that area. Savannah’s got so much history. It’s such a neat little Southern town. It’s not little, but it’s such a great historic, so much history there, that we just love actually visiting Savannah. We also would really enjoy St. Simon’s Island, Jekyll Isle, really neat coastal cities there, little quaint towns, so much to do. You can go to the beach and the entertainment there and the restaurants. It’s just a fantastic place to go, and we really enjoy it down there. So overall Georgia’s got a lot of different things, a lot of different variables that you can actually choose from. Make sure that you reach out to a realtor and we’ll get you plugged in. No matter where you’re at in the state of Georgia, if it doesn’t happen to be right here in the area that we specialize in, we’ve got agents all across the state that specialize in any particular area that you may be interested in and we’ll make sure that we get you connected with them.

One of the last things you need to know before moving to Georgia is the Southern charm. Probably one of the most eye-opening experiences I had when I originally moved here was just how welcoming and how nice that Southern hospitality truly is. It’s, you know we talk about it. You’ve probably heard about the Southern charm. It’s for real. Everybody waves at everybody, everybody says hi. And when you move here, you can expect your neighbors to actually come and visit you and probably give you a cake or a plate of cookies to welcome you to the neighborhood. So Southern charm here is absolutely fantastic. It’s just a great joyous place to live, and I know you’re going to enjoy it.
